The Democratic Party’s official symbol is a Donkey and the Republican symbol an Elephant, but most don’t know the origins of these symbols. Back in the day, 1828 to be exact, Andrew Jackson was running for President and his opponents called him a jackass non stop. Instead of being a coward about it, he said fuck you guys and made the Donkey his official campaign symbol. The Donkey was later immortalized by the cartoonist Thomas Nast and had become the entire Democratic Party symbol. A few years down the road, that same cartoonist, would create a cartoon of a Donkey wrapped in lion skin, scaring off a massive “Republican” Elephant. Shortly after, the Elephant became the Republican symbol… Now what the hell did this all mean in the 1800s, who the hell knows???? But its fair to say that this cartoon is not far from our current political landscape, a bunch of Democratic Jackasses and over-sized Republican Pussies. Maybe it’s time for a porcupine.
